Ellen Weber LibbyEllen Weber Libby, PH.D. received her doctorate from the University of Maryland in 1977. Since completing her doctorate, she has devoted her professional life to fostering the psychological well-being of individuals, couples, and families. Prior to beginning her private practice, Dr. Libby was the clincial director of a mental health center serving children and their families and on the faculty at the University of Maryland.

Dr. Libby, a licensed psychologist, maintains a private practice in Washington, DC, where she has spent over 60,000 hours working with clients, individually and in groups. Applying her expertise in family dynamics to ongoing individual and group therapy, Dr. Libby supervises therapists and leads professional workshops.

Dr. Libby, the author of the ground-breaking book The Favorite Child is nationally recognized for promoting an understanding of family dynamics generated by favoritism. The Favorite Child reflects her belief that at each person’s core are feelings related to being chosen, not chosen, or overlooked. Dr. Libby believes that dynamics emanating from favoritism profoundly impact family dynamics.
